ABSTRACT: Construction industry has been revolutionized by the introduction of Building Information Modelling (BIM), opening the doors for greater automation and productivity across different stages of construction projects, from start to finish, which has improved coordination between stakeholders and has been instrumental in completing projects faster than ever before. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a revolution in the field of technology that has completely changed the way the world works. It has taken innovation to a whole new level with its capabilities reaching beyond imagination, that has raised concerns from human beings over its potential ability to take over humans. Augmented Intelligence (AuI) is a concept which is aimed at creating a human-AI partnership of equality, to improve efficiency and precision in decision-making and to control unchecked development of AI that can threaten the society. AuI enables humans and machines to deal effectively with the drawbacks of one another. Construction industry continues to be plagued with severe time, cost and productivity issues and innovation is crucial to overcome the challenges, where AuI can play a massive role to solve them. This study aims to highlight the potential benefits of the novel concept of AuI and existing literature on BIM-AI integration is reviewed to identify areas and extent of research in this field, to inspire future research and innovation, towards a promising future for the construction industry.
